Most buildings and residences built prior to 1980 contain asbestos in some form. Even after 1980, asbestos containing materials are present in building materials as asbestos is still produced and shipped overseas where it finds its way into building products that are sold in the United States. If you are planning to demolish, remediate or renovate any existing structure, you may be subject to federal and county rules relating to the demolition and handling of asbestos containing materials. A point of note is that once a property is purchased, the owner assumes liability of the property for the history of ownership.
