Bad Economic Times-People Staying At Home

What can I say, there are troubling times ahead for all of us across the United States of America and around the world. Job losses, foreclosures, increased food prices as well as gas prices, do not paint a pretty picture. All of these factors are having a fundamental effect on how people are behaving. Statistics are showing that people are travelling less, retail sales are down and overall, people are not going out spending money.

These statistics are pointing to another important statistic, people are spending more time than ever at home. Whether single, married or have a family, people across America and the world, are spending more time at home. Spending more time at home is not necessarily a bad thing but it does increase the importance of having a safe healthy home.

Making sure people have a healthy home is one of the reasons AirMD was started. The environment has always been interesting and important to me and was the reason for choosing my career in environmental science and toxicology. Whether it is my interest in wildlife conservation or outdoor environmetal issues, environmental awareness has always been a passion of mine. It was through this interest that I discovered my desire to help people. I realized many years ago that focusing my attention while using my scientific background, I could help many people.

People that suffer from allergies, asthma and many other illnesses have very few options when it comes to determining the source of their symptoms. They may know what triggers their symptoms but not know where the source is. Additionally, there are many people that are not aware of how indoor environments can negatively effect their health. I am pleased to say that AirMD is immersed in the process of bringing awareness to people, through education and with the services we offer, and we are helping people live in healthy homes.

We currently serve three counties in southeast Florida including Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade with locations in Boca Raton, West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Miami. We are expanding at an impressive rate and it is our goal to make our services available to as many people as possible around America.

I am extremely happy that I am part of a solution that can help people regardless of the economic times and I continue to strive to increase community awareness.

I agree totally. I am out of work right now and have been to the doctor twice already with allergy symptoms.I never even considered that it may be my home making me sick !

That is a good thing to know. I have allergies and never knew it could be my home environment that played a role. I should discuss this with my allergist at my next appointment.

I recently read an article that womens hands carry more germs then men 40% more.
The article talks about men sweating more which can kill bacteria and the womens hand creams can play a role in increasing the amount of germs
What do you think?

Why do Americans don't wash their hands after using the restrooms? Why do employees have to be reminded of washing their hands in the restrooms before returning to work? Why is the Norwalk virus increasingly showing on cruise ships? I think we (parents, teachers) should do more by passing on good cleaning habits starting at home, schools, etc.
What do you think?

Joe I think you are correct in stating that the responsibility lies in the hands of parents and teachers but I also think general public awareness is required and that is the purpose of this blog.

I can't answer why people do not wash their hands after using restrooms as everyone is different but I think it is because they do not realize the significance of washing your hands and how it can control the spread of illness and germs.

The Norwalk virus has increased as cruise ships are semi-closed communities, many ships are using alcohol based cleaners that are not effective at treating the virus and again peoples lack of care for washing their hands all contribute.

Thank you for your post and please continue to interact as our intention is to build a community that informs and contributes to people living healthier.
